New plant in Romania produces
Timken® tapered roller bearings to meet global demand

The Timken Company (NYSE: TKR; www.timken.com), the world leader in tapered roller bearings, provided tours and held grand opening ceremonies at its new facility near Ploiesti, Romania. The facility, which is the company’s second in Romania, caters to the global demand for highly engineered Timken® tapered roller bearings in sizes up to 300 mm in diameter. Located on a 15,000-square-meter site and built at a cost of nearly $60 million, the state-of-the art facility will initially employ 120 associates.

Andreas Roellgen, Timken vice president of Europe, Asia and Africa, and Bogdan Stanciu, Prahova plant manager, welcomed the invited guests, customers and government dignitaries, including the U.S. Ambassador to Romania Hans Klemm, reinforcing our continued commitment to the European market with this new bearing manufacturing facility.

“I’m delighted to launch our second plant in Romania,” said Roellgen. “This new facility strengthens our footprint in Europe and further equips us to meet local and global customer needs with our market-leading quality and service levels. This investment further advances the company’s strategic growth plan, which includes geographic expansion, competitive manufacturing and accelerating product development-to-commercialization activities.”

“Since 1997, when we began manufacturing bearings in Romania, we’ve been strengthened by our talented associates and have enjoyed a positive business environment,” added Bogdan Stanciu, Prahova plant manager. “We’ll continue to leverage the proximity to our existing plant in Ploiesti, relying on its infrastructure and our well-established talent pipeline. Our trust in the capabilities of our associates in Romania made it possible for us to undertake this endeavor.”

Timken bearings are used across countless industrial sectors in a wide variety of applications wherever wheels and shafts move and turn. The Timken tapered roller bearings made at this new facility are critical mechanical components found, for example, in industrial geardrives and off-highway applications that include construction and agricultural equipment, haul trucks and cranes. The plant directly serves original equipment manufacturers in a wide range of industrial segments and reach end users through the company’s global network of industrial distributors.

Timken operates 73 manufacturing plants and service centers around the world, including eight European facilities located in Italy, France, Poland, Romania and the United Kingdom.
