Ingersoll Rand Discusses Compressed Air Systems Improvements within the Industrial Manufacturing Sector at ManuTalk Berlin.

Ingersoll Rand expert addresses how data-driven, end-to-end assessment of the compressed air system maximises sustainability, reliability and quality objectives.

Ingersoll Rand, a global leader in compression technologies and services, met with influential practitioners across the global industrial manufacturing sector at the Berlin ManuTalk conference to share expertise in delivering improved compressed air operations to make the way factories work more efficiently.

Thomas Mathen, vertical industries Center of Excellence leader at Ingersoll Rand, delivered a case study approach revealing how Ingersoll Rand leverages digitization and rapidly deploys data-driven, end-to-end system assessments of a manufacturing plants’ compressed air needs. By focusing this assessment on discovering opportunities to meet and exceed sustainability, reliability and quality objectives of compressed air systems, Ingersoll Rand is able to partner with manufacturing clients to generate improvements in their systems and increase their return on investment (ROI).

“With energy consumption being, on average, 70 to 80 percent of a typical running cost of an air system and, of that, approximately 40 percent of the air being wasted downstream in a typical air system, taking a total system approach instead of focusing on the single compressor unit is critical,” Mathen said. “Improving the end-to-end system efficiency is the current expectation from manufacturers.”

“Based on Ingersoll Rand’s connectivity with customers in various vertical markets including pharmaceutical, electronics, food and beverage and automotive, we understand the different needs of the entire compressed air system. We also understand the customers’ market and business priorities for their success. Building on this, we leverage digitisation and insights derived from the data of customer’s compression system to simulate different optimization scenarios for improving reliability (uptime and predictability), sustainability, quality and in turn, delivering increased ROI” said Mathen.

Ingersoll Rand’s holistic total system approach to compressed air goes hand-in-hand with the Industry 4.0 approach leveraging the advances in compressor technology, specialized know-how, use of analytics and data driven insights, and control expertise to provide customers with a smart manufacturing solution that meets individual requirements. In his presentation Mathen focused on:

  • Sustainability: Reduce waste and increase operating efficiencies to deliver an improved environmental footprint and energy efficiency of the compressed air system.
  • Reliability: Increasing uptime and predictability of operating costs with customised solutions and digitization for managing and maintaining the compressed air system.
  • Quality: Deliver air quality needs through cross industry best practices.
